A new digital rule in Uttar Pradesh puts school transport under strict scrutiny, aiming to ensure that every child travels in a safe and verified vehicle.
The Uttar Pradesh government has made it compulsory for all schools to upload the details of their vehicles on an online portal. The decision has been taken to improve the safety of students and to make it easier for authorities to check whether school vehicles are following the required rules. The new system will apply to every school that operates buses, vans, or any other vehicle used to transport students.
According to the state transport department, schools in Uttar Pradesh must upload complete information about their vehicles before April 15. The details will be uploaded on the UP Integrated School Vehicle Management Portal, also known as UPISVMP. Through this portal, the government wants to create a single online platform where the records of all school vehicles can be stored and checked.
The transport department has said that this move is mainly aimed at increasing the safety of children. In many cases, school vehicles run without proper documents, valid fitness certificates, or necessary permissions. Sometimes vehicles are old and poorly maintained, but they continue to transport children because there is no regular checking system. The new online portal is expected to solve this problem by making it easier for officials to monitor every vehicle.
Schools will have to upload several important documents on the portal. These include vehicle registration details, insurance papers, permit information, pollution certificate, fitness certificate, and details of the driver. The portal will also require schools to mention how many vehicles they operate and which students travel in them. After the documents are uploaded, the transport department will compare the information with the actual records available in government offices.
Officials have made it clear that uploading the information online does not mean that physical checking will stop. The transport department will continue to inspect school vehicles personally. District-level education officers and transport officers will work together to verify whether the details provided by schools are correct. If there is any difference between the online information and the actual condition of the vehicle, the school may face action.
The authorities believe that the new system will make the checking process faster and more transparent. Earlier, transport officials had to check fitness certificates and other documents manually. This often took time and created confusion because the papers were stored in different places. In some cases, records were incomplete or missing. With the help of the online portal, all information will now be available in one place, making it easier for officials to carry out inspections.
The initiative is especially important in districts like Gautam Buddh Nagar, where a large number of schools operate private vehicles. Officials have said that more than 500 schools in the district will have to upload the details of every vehicle used for transporting students. This means that thousands of vehicles will come under the new monitoring system.
Schools have also been instructed to submit a declaration confirming that the information uploaded on the portal is correct. If a school does not operate any vehicle, it must still submit a declaration stating that no school transport service is being used. This rule has been introduced so that no school can avoid the process.
The decision comes at a time when concerns about student safety are increasing across the country. Several road accidents involving school buses and vans have raised questions about whether enough checks are being carried out. Parents often worry about the condition of the vehicle in which their children travel every day. The new online verification system may help reduce these concerns because it creates a clear and accountable process.
Although the success of the system will depend on proper implementation, the decision is an important step towards safer school transport in Uttar Pradesh. If schools cooperate and officials conduct regular inspections, the online portal can become an effective way to ensure that every child travels in a safe and legally approved vehicle.
