Oktoberfest in Delhi: 9 Places to Enjoy German Food and Beer This Weekend

From Bavarian pretzels and bratwurst to imli beer and fresh Märzenbier, Delhi is bringing its own flavour to Oktoberfest this weekend.

Two centuries ago, a royal wedding gave Munich a reason to celebrate. In October 1810, the city held a public festival to mark the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. The celebrations were so popular that they returned the following year and eventually evolved into Oktoberfest, the world's best-known beer festival.

This October, a little bit of that Bavarian spirit has made its way to Delhi.

The capital may not have Munich's vast festival grounds, but its hotels, breweries and neighbourhood bars are bringing German food, beer and live entertainment to their menus and event calendars. Some are staying close to tradition, while others are adding distinctly Indian flavours to the experience.

Here are nine places where you can experience Oktoberfest in Delhi this weekend.

1. Tipple, Vivanta Dwarka

At Tipple, Oktoberfest gets an Indian makeover through its Hopotsav celebration. The menu brings together German favourites such as pretzels with obatzda, a traditional cheese spread, potato rosti and Bavarian sausage bites.

The drinks take a more creative turn, with options such as a masala shandy and an imli beer cooler. It is a distinctly Delhi interpretation of a Bavarian celebration, where familiar Indian flavours sit comfortably alongside German food.

2. Polo Lounge, Hyatt Regency Delhi

For those looking for a more traditional German spread, Polo Lounge at Hyatt Regency Delhi offers an à-la-carte selection featuring bratwurst, schnitzel and roast meats.

The food is paired with crisp lagers and wheat beers, making it a relatively straightforward choice for diners who want German classics without too much experimentation.

3. Rick's, Taj Mahal, Mansingh Road

Rick's at The Taj Mahal offers a more polished take on Oktoberfest. Its menu includes potato pancake bites, chicken schnitzel and currywurst.

The experience also includes beer tasters, souvenir mugs and special beer cocktails. Live bands are scheduled on weekends, followed by DJs later in the evening, giving the celebration more of a nightlife feel.

4. SOCIAL

For groups that prefer games and competition to a sit-down meal, SOCIAL has organised its Prost n' Dost celebration across its outlets.

Teams compete in four games and collect points on a leaderboard, turning Oktoberfest into a group activity rather than simply a food-and-drinks promotion. The event continues until October 10, giving visitors more time than most of the other celebrations listed here.

5. Ministry of Beer, Connaught Place

Ministry of Beer in Connaught Place is combining German beers with the familiar atmosphere of a Delhi brewpub.

German wheat and blonde beers are being served alongside beer pong, Jenga and DJ sets. The result is less formal beer festival and more evening out with friends.

6. Stallion Bar, Pride Plaza, Aerocity

At Stallion Bar in Pride Plaza, Aerocity, selected beers are available under a Buy 1 Get 2 offer, accompanied by sharing plates.

For larger groups looking to keep the evening relatively budget-friendly, the combination of beer and shareable food makes this one of the more accessible options.

7. Flow Brew & Dine, DLF Avenue, Saket

Beer enthusiasts may want to head to Flow Brew & Dine, where a fresh Märzenbier is being served. The style has a historic association with Oktoberfest and is traditionally known for its malty character.

The food menu includes hand-twisted pretzels, German potato salad and hot dogs topped with caramelised onions. There is also a brownie made with dark milk stout for those who want to end the meal on a sweeter note.

8. Annamaya, Andaz Delhi, Aerocity

Annamaya at Andaz Delhi is offering a more elaborate Oktoberfest experience through its feast passes.

Options include an all-day Beer Garden Pass as well as a Brew & Feast brunch featuring schnitzel, bratwurst and beer-battered fish. It works particularly well for diners who want Oktoberfest to be a longer food-and-drink experience rather than a quick evening stop.

9. Cherry Bar, The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Shahdara

Cherry Bar at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel has embraced the Bavarian theme with themed décor, grilled platters, beer buckets and live music.

Its location in East Delhi also gives residents of that part of the city an Oktoberfest option without having to head towards the usual central and South Delhi nightlife hubs.

Before You Head Out

Most of these Oktoberfest offers are scheduled to end on October 4, so check the event dates before making a plan. Some promotions may continue beyond that date, while SOCIAL's Prost n' Dost contest runs until October 10.

Weekend crowds can also be expected at several of these venues. Calling ahead and booking a table would be sensible, particularly for larger groups.

And, as always, drink responsibly. Delhi's legal drinking age is 25. If you are drinking, eat properly, stay hydrated and arrange a safe way home. Never drive after drinking.

When Munich Meets Delhi

What makes Delhi's Oktoberfest celebrations interesting is not simply the arrival of German beer and food. It is the way the city adapts an international tradition to its own dining and nightlife culture.

A Bavarian pretzel can sit beside an imli beer cooler. Traditional bratwurst can share a table with Indian-inspired drinks. A beer festival that began with a royal wedding in Munich two centuries ago can now become a weekend plan in Dwarka, Saket, Connaught Place or Aerocity.

You may not be in Munich, but for a few days, Delhi is more than happy to say Prost!
