A Modern Vet Hospital in New Delhi

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has gone through a lot in the recent past, but it has come out with a very solid kind of news that goes in sync with its purposes and actions. It has just completed construction of the Modern Vet Hospital at Moti Bagh in New Delhi. It is a three-story building with all the modern infrastructure, such as operation theatres, audio-visual consultation rooms, and so on. The project was started in 2022 with an aim to provide medical facilities to stray and pet animals. As per the government data, the population of stray dogs in New Delhi is around 80K; therefore, the construction of such a modern pet hospital is very essential.

The officials of the project said, “It has developed a capacity of entertaining 150-200 animals on a daily basis. And, more importantly, it will be provided for free of cost.”.

Last year in July 2023, The Sunday Times published a story titled “Animals were no one’s priority in the Delhi flood.” Therefore, the gravity of such a kind of pet hospital is understood very well. 17 animals died, and more than 150 pets were nursed back to health in the Delhi flood.

Built on an earthquake-resistant structural frame, the 420 sqm building features a solar-panel-equipped rooftop, a firefighting system, a sewage treatment plant, and a rainwater harvesting system. The hospital is designed to handle animals systematically and efficiently. The ground floor is composed of consultation rooms, OPD, cattle, and a monkey pond. It has also got the parking facility attached to the ground floor.

The first floor encompasses X-ray rooms, dark rooms, operation theatres, recovery rooms, consultation rooms, and treatment rooms. It has been built up keeping all the procedures of medical treatments in mind so that animals could be treated diligently as per the requirements. The third floor is constructed for the management work of the hospitals and coordination of the teams working together to bring out the best result in the dedicated domain. It includes meeting rooms for discussion to deal with cases and audio-visual conference rooms for medical superintendents, doctors, and staff.

A new multispeciality hospital is also proposed to be built up on the same existing site for better management of accidental and severe cases of animals in the vicinity of New Delhi. India is a country of huge population where health infrastructure needs an overhaul to accommodate the daily requirements of patients, and in such a critical condition, erecting a modern vet hospital by NDMC deserves a huge appreciation for the efforts and accomplishments.
